Giritale Wewa
Giritale tank is a reservoir considered to be the deepest tank in Sri Lanka during the era of Polonnaruwa kingdom. It is situated a few kilometres away from the massive Parakrama Samudraya and with lots of affluent historic values.
King Agbo II constructed this cavernous reservoir and the King Parakramabahu the great did considerable renovation works. The tank was protected carefully for more than a millennium through several renovations in 1905, 1942 and 1952.
The Giritale Wewa Reservoir has a glorious outlook surrounded with wild elephants and various species of birds and a legendary history dating back to pre-Buddhist era or earlier than that.
