Salli muthumariamman temple
It is one of the beautiful temples in Trincomalee. Mari Amman Deity is a goddess who is predominantly worshipped in Hinduism. She is known as the goddess of the rain. Festivals to this deity are held during late summer, named “Aadi Thiruvizha” is one of the important festivals of the goddess. For this festival, specific traditional delicacies named “Aadi kool” and “Pongal” are made. Devotees largely believe that this deity cures diseases like cholera, smallpox and chickenpox. Mariamman deity's worship might have probably originated from pre-Vedic India. This beach is situated near a beach that adds more peace and calm to the souls. However, considering these places' hot weather, a morning visit or an evening visit is recommended to get away from the hot sun.
This temple is famous for its delicacies, Pittu and ripe jackfruit served in palmyrah leaf plates. As the major sacrifices to this deity, devotees take up Thooku kavadi, karakam and kumpam during festival days.
