Verugal, is one of the most visited temples of Lord Muruga, located in the A5 road of when traveling to Trincomalee from Batticaloa. This temple, which is visited by all devotees going on a Padayatra towards Kataragama from Jaffna, is also known as “Sinna kathirgamam” in tamil. Which is the meaning of Small Kataragama temple in tamil. Villagers have a story to tell about this temple that a hidden treasure was revealed by Lord Murugan to a devotee  who was traveling to Kataragama from South India, and the grand temple was built by him later and was demolished in the 16th century by Portuguese. However, many inscriptions can be seen in the surrounding of the temple from ancient times.
