A mosque, and a mix of devotees

This mosque was built with some tamil and muslim vendors living very friendly during early 1940s, in Nochchimunai, Batticaloa. It has the name “Puliyampokkar” mosque, according to Muslims who live in kattankudy. Puliyampokkar is known to be a renowned social worker of old days. This mosque has an annual Muslim Feast for ten days every year. It is a unique and famous Mosque situated in Nochchimunai village with Tamil speaking Hindus and Christians. They also trust in this mosque and make donations and take part in the annual feast.

Special ghee rice called " NARISA" is distributed during festival days just after the prayers In the Inner shrine, there is a space being established like a burial of the follower. Is it being trusted by the villagers that the bodily remains of Puliyam Pokkar have been buried in this place. This is one unique place in Batticaloa where even Tamil people celebrate this mosque's annual feast like one of  their festivals. This is another example of ethnic harmony in Batticaloa.
