Kajikudicharu tank
One of the irrigation tanks with a mind-blowing green view in Ampara district. Ampara district is well known for its abundance of irrigation tanks that provide water for its lavish green paddy fields. These undulating land topography makes this area suitable for a mini trekking experience for travel enthusiasts. However, these tanks are widely used by local tourists rather than international tourists since these areas are having very minimal facilities including the conditions of the roads, food, and accommodation facilities. This tank, having an irrigable area of 1,700kilometers, caters several more than 600 farmers with its capacity of 5100 liters of water. It is good for a typical Sri Lankan day out with a freshwater bath. However, there is a threat of freshwater crocodiles as in several other irrigation tanks.
This tank can be promoted as a camping site or a place suitable for a leisure bbq party and a beautiful camping experience. A note to travelers and development workers, when you identify untouched natural reserves as tourist hotspots, make sure you don’t deteriorate their beauty through littering and over exploitation.
